Sony has never been afraid to experiment with new technologies, whether it’s robotic dogs or pocketable computers. The PlayStation, on the other hand, has mostly remained loyal to its origins in terms of design and functionality. It’s for this reason that seeing something as uncommon as the DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment is so intriguing to me.
As the name implies, this odd clip-on gadget adds rear buttons to your PlayStation controller, making it more like a traditional controller. It’s a long-overdue addition to the peripherals. In less than a year, the PlayStation 5 will be released, marking the end of more than four years after Microsoft introduced the Xbox Elite controller to critical acclaim. In the end, Sony was unable to survive the holiday season.
.
The gadget is comprised of a black plastic shell that attaches to the rear of your controller using a snap action. It comes with two rubber pads that are designed to fit into the two holes on the back of your controller and hold it securely in place while you play. Despite the fact that the pads are designed to prevent the buttons from slipping, they don’t appear to be as secure as they should be.
The buttons are still a little loose, and I have the impression that I am pressing them by accident from time to time.
The DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment is far larger than you may imagine, especially when you consider that it does nothing more than add back buttons to your controller.
Furthermore, due to its clip-on design, it will not move until you specifically request it to do so. You may continue to use your PS4 controller without having to worry about taking it out of its hiding place behind your TV or wherever else it is plugged in at the time.
Pros and Cons
• Pros
- It’s a nice little touch to have. It has a strong feel about it and is simple to put on and take off.
• Cons
- It’s not the most elegant option available, and the buttons are still a little slack.
Design
The layout is rather straightforward. It’s a black plastic shell that attaches to the rear of your controller with a single snap action. There are two rubber pads on the rear of your controller that fit into the holes on the back of the controller and help to hold it in place. Despite the fact that the pads are designed to prevent the buttons from slipping, they don’t appear to be as secure as they should be.

Features:
It adheres securely, but not so tightly that it becomes irritating or difficult to remove when necessary. In addition, when compared to other similar goods we’ve tested in the past, it has a pleasant feel and weight to it (such as those made by Sony).
The buttons appear to be considerably more substantial than those on other similar-sized jacks we’ve tested in the past (though we haven’t gotten a chance to put this one through its paces on any games just yet). The installation process is also rather simple; all you need is a screwdriver or equivalent equipment and around 10 minutes of your time (assuming you have at least a basic understanding of how to use your PS4 controller).
When you push the buttons, it does not feel like you are pressing on your controller, and it also provides a satisfying tactile reaction in games that allow it. When it comes to DualShock 4 modifications, this is one of the best available, and we strongly suggest it if you have an additional $15 to spend.
Performance and gaming are intertwined.
So far, it has worked flawlessly for all of the games we’ve played (most notably, “Diablo III” and “Borderlands 2”). We haven’t had a chance to put it through its paces on anything else yet, but we will update this review if we have any other observations or experiences.
Aside from that, we haven’t had a chance to test it out with a controller that has already been hacked, so we can’t comment on how well the buttons function with a stock but unmodified controller.
The only major drawback to this controller is that the buttons are a little too tiny for some people. For those of you who are used to playing games with a normal DualShock 4 (or if your fingers are exceptionally little), the buttons may be a touch too small for your liking.
Guide to Purchasing
The buttons are only available in one colour (black), and they are only compatible with the DualShock 4 controller. The buttons are quite inexpensive, with this item on Amazon selling for $7.99 (normally $14.99) and this listing selling for $9.99 (usually $19.99) for the same product.
To save money, you can get a set of them through a local store or an online retailer rather than purchasing them straight from the manufacturer.
When we purchased our set, it was available for purchase for about $12.99 (normally $19.99) from a local retailer in the city where we currently reside.
Additionally, we’ve seen them on sale for as little as $5 (normally $9.99).
It’s possible to purchase a bundle of four of these for for $8.99 (normally $14.99), which will allow you to replace every button on your DualShock 4 with this one. The following are the instructions for installing PS4 Controller Buttons on your PS4 Controller: It will be demonstrated in the following instruction how to configure the buttons on your PlayStation 4 controller so that they function precisely like the standard DualShock 4 controller that has been included with every PlayStation 4 console released since 2013:
Disconnect your DualShock 4 controller from your PlayStation 4 system using the USB cord that came with the gamepad, and then ensure that your gamepad is switched off and removed from the power supply before continuing.
To use a third-party USB cable instead of Sony’s official one, make sure that it is not already connected to anything else, or it will beep at you until it is disconnected from the other device before proceeding with this process.
3. Remove the eight screws that hold your DualShock 4 controller in place and slide out the bottom of the controller until it can be taken out entirely and without resistance. 4.
Verdict
At this price range, this is unquestionably the greatest PlayStation 4 controller available. The controller is lightweight, comfortable, and has a pleasant feel to it when used to play games on the Nintendo Wii.
While I can’t claim that it’s significantly better than the conventional DualShock 4 controller, I do believe that it’s a worthwhile choice to consider if you’re looking for something that’s far less expensive than the official PlayStation 4 controller.
Not to mention that the DualShock 4 controller is still fully compatible with the PlayStation 4 and can be used for a variety of other games and applications.
You should absolutely take this into consideration if you’re seeking for a low-cost alternative to the official Sony DualShock 4 controller for your PlayStation 4.
Conclusion

While I don’t believe it’s nearly as excellent as the conventional DualShock 4 controller, I do believe it’s a nice choice to consider if you’re looking for something that’s a little less expensive than the official PlayStation 4 controller.
While it isn’t quite as amazing as the official DualShock 4 controller, I believe that it is a fantastic option to explore if you’re looking for a more affordable alternative to the official DualShock 4.
Everyone who is seeking for a low-cost alternative to the conventional DualShock 4 controller should strongly consider purchasing this controller.
